Why Your Establishment Should Be Utilizing Social Media

by Ellie Loconte

If you look around when out at a bar/restaurant, store, or even a friends house, it’s no surprise to see people on their phones. These individuals may be texting, looking up a question on Google, checking the weather, or on social media. In 2022, we live in a very digital world, that is only anticipated to keep growing!

If you are an establishment who doesn’t use social media for your business, now is the time to start. From MySpace, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, to now the ever so trendy TikTok, social media has evolved tremendously over the last 10 years. You may be asking yourself: “do I have to use all of these platforms?” The answer is of course, that the decision is up to you!

In an article from Statista, “Number of social media users worldwide from 2018 to 2017,” they state that “on average, internet users spend 144 minutes per day on social media and messaging apps, an increase of more than half an hour since 2015”(Statista, June 2022). The more social platforms that your business manages can lead to higher interaction with online users. These users could be regulars, locals, or possibly looking for an establishment to visit while in town. Whatever the lead is, they are all apart of the ginormous galaxy of social media profiles.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok are all free platforms with creative tools to help you start posting. Participation in a variety of platforms also aids in the accessibility for people to find your business. If they don’t see you online, they may not know you exist at all!
